A fantastic new development

We have passed the official government inspection of the holiday home with flying colours.

The property is now listed in their register, complete with a detailed description.

Prior to the inspection, you are required to provide guests with information about the property and the surrounding area in a so-called guest book.

It’s quite a task to get this neatly on paper and to keep it up to date whenever changes occur.

With that in mind, Jacco came up with the following solution. He has built an app to make this task easier, quicker and more user-friendly for both the host and the guests.

This can be downloaded onto your phone so that you always have access to information about the guest accommodation and the surrounding area.

For example, if you’re spending a day in the area and looking for a restaurant or shop, etc., you can simply check the app for recommendations without having to search the internet, which can be difficult and time-consuming.

Looking back at the snow from Jan 2026

An impression of what it looks like here at the Porva Inn in winter.
Greetings

A new year a new beginning

The new year made itself felt almost immediately.

A white blanket of about 30 cm of snow and a severe frost of -15 degrees Celsius startled us.

The front of the house has two separate boilers for central heating. Just as winter approaches, one boiler breaks down. This puts the pipes in the front of the house at risk of freezing.

The solution is for us to switch the back of the house, where we live completely separated from the holiday home, with the front of the house to keep it frost-free with the fireplace and emergency heating.

We've closed off everything in the back of the house to prevent freezing there and moved it to the front. Louis, our dog, is completely unaccustomed to this and initially finds it quite unpleasant and very restless.

In the beginning, we occasionally turned on the stove in the back of the house and spent a few evenings there to let Louis, and secretly me, get used to things. I admit, like Louis, I'm not a fan of change.

We needed a solution to repair the boilers, because even though one still works, both are very old. It was therefore advisable to have both replaced.

We thought it would be a piece of cake, but that turned out not to be the case. After a tremendous amount of effort, we finally found an installer. In two weeks, the boilers and the entire system will be updated to current standards. Not a cheap solution. Hopefully, this won't be the trend for the new year.

Best wishes to everyone for 2026.
